Txhawb

Txhawb Hmong Magazine

In the spring of 2007, Lar Yang, owner of Yang Design and 1999 graphic design graduate of Fresno State launched Txhawb Magazine known formally as Txhawb Hmong California Directory in Fresno, California.

In the winter of 2007, the first issue of Txhawb 2008 premiered at the Sacramento Hmong New Year followed by distribution at Merced and Fresno Hmong New Year Celebrations and over the years slowly became a Hmong New Year tradition and a household magazine that served and connected many resources to the Hmong communities of California. Txhawb continued to grow every year, adapting to the changing needs of the community, innovating solutions, improving and documenting the stories, struggles and accomplishments of the Hmong communities of California for 12 years concluding with the last printed magazine issue in 2020.

Txhawb magazine was designed as a hybrid publication combining a well designed,

easy to use business and community resource directory with impactful featured stories in beautiful modern layout design and inspiring insightful business and community profiles.

The uniqueness and spirit of Txhawb magazine was achieved through the contributions of talented accomplished writers like Burlee Vang, Mai Der Vang, Cody Anthony, Soul Vang, BoNhia Lee, Vlai Ly, Pos Moua, Pachia Vang, Seng Alex Vang, Chelsey See Xiong and countless other talented writers. Many talented photographers and artists helped to bring to life powerful visual stories of culture, identity, struggle, resilience and triumph through their photographs and work.

Over the years, Txhawb magazine had become a published record and archive of many important milestones and achievements in the Hmong communities of California. It served as a bridge between business and community, increased communications and connected different regions.

After Covid forever impacted the world, we decided to stop producing Txhawb magazine in its print form. There is still a real need for a creative visual platform like Txhawb. We are uncertain about print, but Txhawb may transform into media form in the future.

But for now, we know there is still a family of readers who enjoyed the magazine and had asked for access to past publications. There are many communities and viewers who are just discovering Txhawb Magazine for the first time.

Thank you and enjoy the digital versions of Txhawb Hmong Magazine found below in the links.
